anger the end is nigh

Existential threats are everywhere as we near the end of the first quarter of the 21st century. The new single by ANGER  奰, out of Taiwan, brings up a litany of social issues in an electrifying techno tune. “The End Is Nigh” features sound bites, heavy beats, and fierce lyrics.

The sole member of ANGER   is the mysteriously named B.W., who brings a message that the old biblical fears and the slogans they inspire are just as relevant today as they’ve ever been. Whereas one might expect technology to liberate us, the advent of the internet has led to the dual epidemics of tribalism and isolation, thanks to the ubiquity of propaganda.

B.W. does the writing, programming, instruments and vocals in ANGER  . With these aggressive sounds, stark messages and a colorful visual interpretation of the Guy Fawkes mask from the film V Is For Vendetta. ANGER   presents a chilling theme, one that’s meant to inspire as it strikes fear in our hearts.

Sounding like a sociologist, B.W. writes: “We succumb to algorithms that feed us what we want to hear. Everybody lives in their own information bubble. That, in turn, leads to extremely polarized societies, where it’s almost impossible to have a peaceful debate. Suddenly, everything is a trigger. You would think that with all the technology available, we would be in a much better place. Yet, we still form tribes, like in the primitive age…In the Cold War era, the biblical phrase ‘The End is Nigh’ was used to signalize the potential nuclear apocalypse. If we leave things as they are now, we might need to recycle old slogans.”

ANGER  奰 released their catchy debut single, “Cyberanarchia” in January, and the debut album, titled Grandiose Delusions, is coming later this year.
