Jon St. James is spending lots of time in his home studio, the “New Casbah,” during his COVID-19 quarantine.
He writes: “My home studio is my sanctuary although I have to negotiate time with my 17-year-old son Damon because he wants to record as well! I’m finding the time to update a lot of my software and explore some of the plug-ins I haven’t got around to using yet .”
St. James is a multi-instrumentalist, who shares with so many guitarists the love of gear. “I also plan to play around with some of my many guitar effects pedals,” he adds, “and I’ve been cleaning the studio as It’s gotten so cluttered with gear. I also built and installed a futon in the studio in case I need to quarantine or just want to escape the family madness as we are on each other‘s nerves big time!”
St. James and Stacey Q released the brilliant new SSQ album “Jet Town Je ’T’aime” (their first since 1984) on January 1, and they just dropped a new single which continues the duos’ expressions of fascination with French culture. The video for “Naked Eyes” features vintage French archival footage and some of the coolest downbeat electronica ever. I call it “electronic dreampop.”
Enjoy, stay safe and well.
